Differential Gender Effects of Family Disorganization on the Health and Quality of Life

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the differential effects of family disorganization on men and women"s health and quality of life. In order to do this work, this study used the data of Korea Welfare Panel Study collected by Koran Institute for Health and Social Affairs and the Social Welfare Research Center of Seoul National University in 2006 and 2008, respectively. That is, this study used the data of 432 persons which are composed both of 283 persons experienced family disorganization for 2 years from 2006 to 2008 and of 150 ones persons from ordinary family
From data analysis, this study found that the physical and mental healths and the quality of life experienced family disorganization are considerably worsen, and women gotten divorced or lived separately from their husbands are much poor in particular. This study also found that the respondents" housing type, status of employment, poverty, and family disorganization have a significant effect on their physical and mental health. In particular, the physical and mental health of divorced or bereaved women was worsen, and the mental health of divorced men was also worsen. Although the variable of family disorganization is not significant on the quality of life, however, it seems to have an indirect effect on the quality of life by the physical and mental health.
